Natural and raw beauty
Clay is the embodiment of natural and raw beauty. To celebrate its rich pigments and texture, the exterior is often left unglazed, revealing the clay’s true essence. Inspired by natural tones, I blend different hues to create striking contrasts. The Neriage marbling technique transforms layers of naturally pigmented clay into unique expressions, conveying movement like a swift brushstroke. Each piece’s form and silhouette are integral to its identity. Shaping the clay on the pottery wheel, handcrafted additional elements, like handles, elevate the design.
Creative expression
Each handmade piece possesses its own unique expression. While I seek uniformity in multiples, the beauty lies in their individuality. A collection of pieces are more like sisters than twins. The subtle idiosyncrasies of a piece capture a fleeting moment in time, making each one a treasured reflection of beauty.
The creative process serves as a profound teacher in patience, quietness, and letting go. It serves as a reminder that there is always more to learn and explore. The journey of creating from the earth is inspirational, each transformation unfolds to reveal the final form.
About Logan Ceramics
Growing up surrounded by art, some of my fondest memories are of my father’s oil paintings that adorned every inch of our small family apartment in Queens, NY. Watching him paint taught me how he intuitively guided his brush strokes, seeking harmony and balance in composition, form, and color.
My vessels reflect a blend of classical forms and modern influences. Just as the unique characteristics of wood grain tell a story, I explore texture and marbling techniques to create a distinct tactile language in clay. My hope is that these vessels will be cherished over time and offer comfort in your everyday life.
Trusting the materials, trusting the tools, and remaining essentially hidden as a maker. Repetition leads to the forgetfulness of the self, and by transcending the self, the artisan allows the work to 'do itself'.”― Mira Nakashima, Nature Form & Spirit: The Life and Legacy of George Nakashima
